Employment in the Contruction Industry for People with Dyslexia
Strathspey Railway, in partnership with Concept Northern and MEI Midlands Training LTD, is happy to introduce a specialised training program aiming to remove the barriers to employment within the construction industry for people with dyslexia. Many Modern Apprenticeship positions within the construction industry are now available across Scotland.
Background
It is a legal requirement that prospective General Operatives working on a construction site must hold the applicable qualifications – for example “PASMA” (Working at Heights) or CSCS (Site Health and Safety). The theory training involved with gaining these qualifications can be challenging for people with dyslexia and support is required from the outset.
For this reason we have developed a customised training solution designed to:
- Provide dyslexic applicants with the skills and techniques required to successfully pass their site qualifications
- Core Skills and dyslexia support techniques
- Assistive Technology skills which will be used throughout applicant’s career
- Introductory Access to Work workplace assessment and recommendations
- Various Site Qualifications based on chosen industry
- Progression to a Modern Apprentice position in the construction industry
